Dreaming Of Chanel Exhibition

In Uncategorized on August 23, 2011 at 11:08 pm

For those of you familiar with the book “Dreaming of Dior” and “Dreaming of Chanel” by Charlotte Smith, now is your chance to see the dresses those books are about up close and personal at the QUT  art museum. The Dreaming of Chanel exhibition will run from the 26 August- 16 October. Those of you that are not familiar the books are written by Charlotte obviously who inherited over 3000 vintage pieces, many of which are designer from her American godmother, Doris Darnell. The books only provide illustrations of the garments so this exhibition gives you the opportunity to see the garments in person.

The museum is located at:

2 George St
QUT Gardens Point Campus
(next to the City Botanic Gardens)
Brisbane

and opening hours are:

Monday to Friday | 10am to 5pm
Saturday & Sunday | 12 noon to 4pm

and the best part is the admission is free!

Shoebaloo

I know i should be blogging about Brisbane fashion week, but I just remembered an amazing store I went  to  in the Netherlands.  Shoebaloo is a shoe store in a room that looks like an igloo. All the shoes look like are  sitting in carved out  ice! The best part is the shoes are Mugler, Alexander McQueen, Prada and Lanvin to name a few. Check out the locations and collections before you go at shoebaloo.nl

Moda Operandi. This website is that latest in fashion innovation. The website explains what it is exactly,  but essentially you can order looks from the runway collections 2 days after the show and they arrive in a month to 4 months  later. The most exciting aspect of the website is that all pieces from the collection will be available to purchase, Unlike the edited collections found in stores. Membership is free but is selective. It’s worth a look if you like to have pieces before they get in store. modaoperandi.com

Szidonia Szep

In Uncategorized on August 4, 2011 at 11:08 pm

This young Hungarian designer has a very  unique aesthetic. Szidonia Szep clothes are mostly basics with a twist and in dark tones. The clothes are stocked in a store in Amsterdam, Young Designers United ( I know there is also so not so nice stuff on the website). As well as online on a collaborative website that encourages new Hungarian designers that don’t  or don’t wish to produce to a mass market, Ourstyle. From what I gather, Ourstyle ships internationally but I am not 100% sure.

For more information check out theSzidonia Szep Website and Blog.
